A new exploration in healing world

8 11 2010

Gift-economy in the healing world is age-old, and in the modern day pretty rare. As a friend said recently, “docs are much more interested in money making, business, and self-sustainability than caring for another being”.  Indeed, that is an experience for many. So, the exploration of healing in the generosity paradigm is quite a shift already.

Karma Clinic practitioners wondered what it would be like to get together and serve all in on space. Six alternative healers, all offering their modalities of healing on a gift-basis, in one physical location- energy healing, ayurveda, holistic weight loss coaching, acupuncture, and craniosacral.  And, a couple weeks back serendipity struck.  Rajen Thapa, host of Karma Kitchen in Berkeley, was buying a new restaurant and wanted to re-create the magic of KK (and karma) there.  We brainstormed about Karma Clinic coming there on alternate Sundays and lo and behold, last Sunday was our pilot launch!   Rajen was so excited that they even featured Karma Clinic on the restaurant website!  Our opening was humble yet fun (with special teas and healthy snacks and massage tables) and felt grounded in the right spirit!  Vena & Ashwin (from KK-Chicago!) along with Chris and Nipun came by after their KK shift to support the opening — its hard to say how they managed to have so much energy but perhaps it was the good vibes. 🙂  They really provided a huge boost and were an inspiration.  Reflecting on CF’s ethic, we also brainstormed about “stepping it up” and letting our actions (not marketing) attract people and to that end, we plan to pro-actively reach out to monasteries, nonprofits and more.

To go into these various communities and offer healing sessions, without expecting something in return.  And, it would be an honor to use the gifts that we have, giving them away, and in that process, supporting our own inner transformation.   In the end, “it is ourselves we are healing, ourselves we are helping”- Dr.V, Infinite Vision

One of the volunteer practitioners expressed later, “what an amazing day yesterday was for me—to be able to connect with other people doing such amazing work, to see dreams realized and expressed  and to feel the beginning of community being built, felt truly heart warming.” That sums it up pretty nicely!
